The Invisible String program, inspired by the popular children’s book The Invisible String by Patrice Karst, is a wonderful space for helping children with separation anxiety, and those who need to practice connecting and social skills under safe conditions. It uses the metaphor of an invisible string that connects loved ones, even when they are physically apart, providing comfort and reassurance. Incorporating this concept into an expressive arts and counselling program can help children visualise and feel the emotional connections that support them during times of separation. An eight-week expressive arts and counselling program, includes an introduction to mindfulness for children aged 6-12, focusing on separation anxiety, building safe relationships and connection, and practices social skills in a safe environment, using the Invisible String metaphor to guide them.
